There are many expatriates from around the world who call Buenos Aires home. As a part of making this city feel like home, these residents are regularly looking for opportunities to get involved and to help the community.

At ArgentinaVolunteer.org, we have come to realize that the expatriate community is a huge, untapped resource that could benefit the non-profit sector tremendously. However, we also realized that many expats find it diffcicult to find a good volunteer opportunity as a foreigner.

Why is it so difficult for foreigners?
Language: There are many different kinds of people within the expat community and not all of them speak Spanish when they first arrive. Therefore, they do not understand the information that is available.
Lack of information online: Most expats come from countries where people are used to finding any and all information on the internet. However, the online sector is not quite as developed here in Argentina and many times foreigners become frustrated after searching the internet for information that cannot be found there.
Third-Party Agencies: While expats are looking online for information about volunteering, they generally can only find agencies that want to charge a fee to place foreigners in a volunteer position. However, we believe that it should be free to serve the community in which you live.

Therefore, it is our mission to help connect this supply of eager volunteers to the demands of organizations.

Sivan (South Africa), Layne (US), Joel (Oz) and Elena (US) are a group of four expats who live in Buenos Aires and are interested in volunteer work and community service. When we arrived in Argentina, we realized that it can be difficult to find volunteer opportunities or connect with NGOs as a foreigner. So we decided to create a website that would connect eager volunteers with organizations working within our community.
And so, Argentina Volunteer was born!

Hay muchos expatriados de todas partes del mundo que viven en Argentina y lo consideran su hogar. Muchas veces, estos residentes buscan maneras de integrarse a la comunidad y hacerse sentir como en casa. Por eso, hay cientos de extranjeros que están regularmente en busca de oportunidades de participar y ayudar a la comunidad nuestra.

En ArgentinaVolunteer.org, nos hemos dado cuenta de que la comunidad de expatriados es un enorme recurso sin explotar que podría beneficiar enormemente al sector sin fines de lucro. Sin embargo, nos dimos cuenta que puede resultar difícil encontrar un voluntariado como extranjero.

¿Por qué es tan difícil para los extranjeros?
Idioma: Dentro de la comunidad expat hay todos tipos de perfiles. No todos hablan muy bien el castellano al principio y a veces no encuentran información en un idioma que entienden.
Falta de información online: En la mayoría de los países de donde previenen los expatriados la gente está acostumbrada a buscar información por internet. Sin embargo, esta parte no es tan desarrollada en la Argentina y muchas veces expatriados se frustran buscando información online que no existe.
Agencias Terceristas: Cuando los expatriados buscan online para información sobre voluntariados, generalmente salen agencias que quieren cobrar una suma para conectarlos con voluntariados. Nosotros creemos que debe ser gratis ayudar a la comunidad donde uno vive.

Por eso, es nuestra misión usar el internet para conectar el suministro de voluntariados entusiastas a las demandas de las organizaciones.
